Allhiphop.com is reporting that music producer Scott Storch “has signed on to start in a new reality show that will chronicle his return to the music business.” According to Hiphopgame.com, the show will be produced by the Bunim/Murray team, who are behind successful reality shows such as The Real World, Road Rules, Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Project Runway. Apparently, the show will focus on Storch’s return to the music industry. As of now, it has not been disclosed what channel the show will be on or when it will debut.
Storch is a well-respected producer in the hip hop industry, who has made tracks for everyone from Jadakiss to The Roots to Eminem. He also has been very successful in crossing over to the pop world, producing a large number of tracks for Paris Hilton on her debut album, as well as crafting songs for Jessica Simpson, Beyoncé, Danity Kane and many more. David Weintraub, one of the show’s executive producers stated, “This is a monumental moment to see a producer of his caliber let the cameras into his world and see how records are made.”
It’s this ability to make a hit in a wide variety of genres that made Storch one of the wealthiest people in the music industry, with Rolling Stone reporting that the Canadian-born producer has grossed over $70 million in his career, and Forbes Magazine citing him in their 2007 article, ‘Hip Hop Cash Kings,’ in which they reported that he earned $17 that year.
However, I think that most readers will agree with me that a reality show based on Storch’s comings and goings over the last two or three years, as opposed to his future proceedings, would be inherently more interesting. In the last three years, a free-falling Storch allegedly blew through $25 million, went broke, failed to make payments on his Miami mansion, his cars and his child support, and ended up owing the IRS over $1 million in back taxes. What lead to this spectacular downfall? Allegedly, an addiction to a certain white powder that’s a usual suspect in this type of fall from grace is what did Storch in. It’s unclear how Storch spent $25 million on cocaine and survived as he spiraled out of control, but I think that a show about his downfall would have made for incredible reality television.
However, now that Storch is apparently in better shape and looking to put his like back together, we here at Joonbug wish him luck, and a look at how he produces his music will certainly make for a decent show.
